Updating Paper Log DXCC Records

Top  Previous  Next

The user does not need to spend any consideration to the update of his DXCC records from QSO records in the log. TurboLog 4 does all the necessary administration automatically. This is outlined in greater details in the paragraph on DXCC support. There is also no problem with importing log data from TurboLog 3 or from foreign logs by using one of the import facilities, preferably via ADIF. These log records will also contribute automatically to the DXCC standings.

The question arises, however, how to proceed if someone has a large paper log which he does not want or cannot afford to transfer into TL4 with DXCC tables administered manually at the side?

There are two answers to this question:

1.The content of the DXCC tables has to be typed into a dedicated import facility for Non Logged QSOs and thus included into the processing algorithms for the DXCC records in TurboLog 4. This is an error prone and tedious procedure as those might remember who ever went through it in TurboLog 3.

2.Only those QSOs are picked off the paper log and typed into TurboLog 4 by using the comfortable postevent logging facility which contribute to the DXCC counts with respect to an all time new country, new band or mode. The advantage of this procedure is that dates, times, modes, operator's name, etc. can always be retrieved from these "stakeholder" QSOs as well. Who will not be pleased to recall the full log record for his first ... and may be one and only QSO ... with, say, Heard Island for example?  Furthermore, the report facility would then be enabled to retrieve the truly First QSO with a particular DXCC country. Moreover, if you want to make submissions of received QSL cards to the ARRL in order to receive credit for your DXCC records you also need to give QSO dates which can easily be extracted by TurboLog 4 ...as long as the data is in the log database and not just as a counter for a non logged entry in the DXCC table. Finally, if you want to participate in the ARRL's LOTW you can only import full log records if you want to give or receive credit for a particular contact. This all sums up to an overwhelming majority of advantages for this approach.

In view of the benefits of procedure two and with respect to the powerful and comprehensive data retrieving algorithms in TurboLog 4 we recommend to go this way. It is by all means the best and fastest procedure as well. For this reason we refrain from implementing a special facility for Non Logged QSOs. We will provide dedicated search mechanisms in the lists and reports facility in order to quickly find out which QSOs should be entered in the log in order to serve as "stakeholders". This will ease the effort to straighten DXCC records in TurboLog 4 for those users of TurboLog 3 who maintained large quantities of non logged QSOs in re-establishing their old record numbers.
